 Focusing on Greater Community Outreach for Women
Pekin Hospital is pleased to be an exclusive Spirit Hospital in the area by partnering with the Spirit of Women Hospital Network, a national coalition of 80 hospitals in over 50 cities whose mission is to inspire women to take action for better health.
Why It's Important
"Women make nearly 85% of all the healthcare decisions for their families," Gary Jepson, CEO, said. "We want those decisions to include Pekin Hospital, and that's why we support the ongoing celebration of women's health that Spirit of Women represents. Our partnership will enable us to offer even more keys to wellness for the women in our community."
This exciting partnership provides additional opportunities for women in central Illinois to learn about health issues while having fun. Programs include major educational presentations, exciting community wellness events, support groups, health fairs and expos, educational materials, interactive websites and more. We can now offer our community's women even more opportunities to come together and gain important information on the health topics that affect women today.
The Power of Spirit Hospitals
 Spirit of Women Hospitals must maintain certain performance guidelines and standards focused on women's services. These standards target the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in women and provide a framework for wellness and prevention guided by the national wellness platform of Healthy People 2010. Each standard has both educational and clinical service components to ensure women have the most up-to-date health and prevention information.
In addition, Spirit of Women member hospitals celebrate the power of women as healthcare consumers and commit to the National Standards for Excellence in women's health, along with innovative community events with national support and coordination. The network helps engage staff, nurses and physicians in the Spirit of Women vision for better health for women and their families in the community and throughout the United States.
