Pekin Hospital Home Health wants you to know that you have the right to choose your home healthcare provider. Federal Law requires that patients be informed of their options for home care, and this is very important to us. The social services department at Pekin Hospital will provide you with a list of the many options available to you so that you can make an informed decision about who will be coming to your home.
If you or a loved one will be going to an assisted living facility, you can still choose your home healthcare provider. Assisted living facilities do not have contracts with home care providers. It is important that you have control over who takes care of you or your loved one. Choosing the right agency can make a tremendous difference in your recovery.
What is the history of Pekin Hospital's Home Health?
Pekin Hospital's Home Health was the first hospital-based program in the state, established in 1960. Licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health and certified by Medicare, Medicaid and Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Pekin Hospital Home Health is also accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of HealthCare Organizations and is a member of the Illinois Home Care Council.
Why should it matter to me that Home Health is hospital-based?
Being hospital-based means we have access to resources such as diabetic educators, wound ostomy specialists, dieticians and specialty supplies that assist us in providing the quality of care you deserve.

Who is eligible for Home Health?
Home Health determines eligibility on a case-by-case basis. If your physician grants a referral, we will assess your condition and decide your service needs based on that evaluation. We provide service without regard to age, sex, race, creed, color, religion, marital status, national origin or physical disability.
What role will the patient's physician play in Home Health?
The patient's personal physician directs the plan of care, receives progress reports about the patient's condition and adjusts services in response to changes in condition.
What is the cost?
The cost of Home Health is determined by the types of services the patient needs. The expenses may be covered totally, or in part, by Medicare, Medicaid or private health insurance. Our staff can help you determine insurance coverage before our visits begin. We will also complete the necessary forms and will bill Medicare, Medicaid or the patient's private health insurance company directly.
