At Pekin Hospital, we realize that a child's hospital admission is stressful for both your child and your family. That's why our team of healthcare professionals does everything possible to make your child's stay comfortable. We will work with your physician to provide exceptional, compassionate care. We also believe that you and your family are your child's main source of strength and support, and we encourage you to participate in your child's care.
Our staff is always available to answer any questions you might have about your child's stay. For more information, please call (309) 353-0518.
When are visiting hours?
Adults and children ages 12 and up are permitted to visit patients from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to visit due to risk of infection, as well as to protect the well child from disease.
Parents have no set visiting hours - they are allowed to visit their child at any time.
How can I prepare for my child's stay at Pekin Hospital?
The notion of staying in a hospital may cause fear and distress in children. We encourage you to take some time to discuss the hospital visit with your child ahead of time. Explaining the reasons for hospitalization in terms a child understands can help ease some initial anxiety.
To help your child feel connected to your home and family, we encourage bringing comforting items from home, such as:
-
Favorite stuffed animal or blanket
-
Bathrobe and slippers to wear over hospital pajamas
-
A few books or activities to help pass the time
-
Favorite videos (each child's room has a TV/VCR)
We also have a supply of books and toys in our playroom.
Can I stay in my child's room overnight?
One parent is welcome to stay overnight. Each room has a bed that folds out for your comfort. If you choose to stay with your child, please remember to bring toiletries, clothes and other essentials.
What can you tell me about the team that will be caring for my child?
Our staff loves children, and we are all passionate about helping sick kids get better. We always have at least one RN and one CNA on staff.
What does the Pediatrics unit have for my child's playtime?
The unit has a playroom that is full of age-appropriate toys, books and movies. Each room is equipped with a TV/VCR, so your child can enjoy a movie in bed. Nintendo is also available for children to play in their rooms.
