My experience at Pekin Hospital has been very good overall - with excellent care and explanations.

Wonderful experience! We DREADED going because of previous doctor experiences at other places…. but your UrgentCare is great!

I really didn’t wait. Everyone was so nice.

My mother has Alzheimer's and really doesn't remember things on her own to take care of herself. My mother and I were especially pleased with the care that the Home Health aide provided - very kind, patient, and friendly.

I came to The Baby Place for the tub and "Baby Friendly" designation. It is very important to me and why I chose Pekin Hospital.

I wanted everyone to know how absolutely pleased we are with the care Dad had! From the ER, all the way up to the floor. I also want to make a special point about Dr. Usman. He has called me at home to talk about Dad's meds and ask if I was comfortable with his care. Thank you for taking such good care of my Dad!

I have had surgery at Pekin and Peoria, and I prefer Pekin any time. All the nurses on 5 North are great!

Every time I pushed the nurse's button, my request was answered in a timely manner.

Pekin Hospital always serves very good food. It is hard to please everyone, but you do an excellent job!

Everyone in Ambulatory Surgery was very pleasant. They answered all my questions with ease. I have already recommended this center to several others.

The doctor was very upbeat and made the visit to the hospital as much of a good visit as possible. He was very good at making my daughter laugh.

What is the Patient Service Center?

The Patient Service Center brings outpatient services to the patient instead of making the patient go to several different locations for outpatient services. Patient convenience is the key. A specially trained patient representative will be able to assist you with registration, as well as answer questions and guide you through the rest of your hospital visit.

Services include:

  • Registration for inpatient and outpatient services
  • Laboratory services including drawing blood for tests and collecting urine samples
  • Outpatient EKGs
  • Cashier to accept payment on bills or payment for classes or services offered
  • Pre-registration for select services such as obstetrics, surgery and ambulatory surgery
  • Patient relations to answer questions and concerns patients, visitors and family members may have about hospital and physician services

The Patient Service Center is located on the first floor of the hospital next to the Radiology Department. For further information about Pekin Hospital's Patient Service Center, please call (309) 353-0423.

What types of surgery does Pekin Hospital perform?

With the exceptions of brain and heart surgery, Pekin Hospital can aptly perform many surgical procedures. Some of these include:

  • General and vascular
  • Urological
  • Orthopedic
  • Otolaryngologic (ENT)
  • Plastic and reconstructive
  • Gynecologic
  • Obstetrics
  • Pediatric
  • Maxillofacial (dental and oral)
  • Ophthalmologic
  • Laser treatments

What types of anesthesia does Pekin Hospital offer?

Before surgery, your anesthesiologist will explain what type of anesthesia you will be receiving, whether it be general, local, topical, IV-administered or a block.

How should I prepare for surgery?

One to seven days prior to surgery, you will have what is called a "pre-test." During this visit to Pekin Hospital, you will meet with a nurse who will explain what your day of surgery will be like and how you will need to prepare for it. The nurse will give you any special instructions you must follow. You will also receive a booklet that contains helpful information for preparing for your day of surgery.

During your pre-test, a nurse will ask you questions about your medical history. You might have lab work done if necessary. Your pre-test is also a time for you to meet with your anesthesiologist and discuss what type of anesthesia you will receive and what to expect.

Finally, you will be given the date and time of your surgery.

Where should I park?

Parking for surgery patients is most convenient in the main parking lot across the street from the main hospital entrance, as patients will be discharged on this side of the building.

Will I be able to drive home after having surgery?

No. After surgery, you cannot drive for at least 24 hours. You should plan on having someone with you for your day of surgery to drive you home as well as accompany you for the remainder of the day.

Where will I recover if I am having inpatient surgery?

Patients rest and recover from surgery on one of our patient care floors. These areas are comfortable, have relaxing environments, and are staffed by caring and attentive nurses who are trained to help patients recover from surgery. We strive to offer pre-operative teaching and post-operative care and pain control, which contributes to early ambulation and a quick return to the activities of daily living. Once you have recovered, our staff will educate you and your family about managing your condition before you are discharged.
