In recognition of National Mammography Day, the Tazewell County Health Department and Pekin Hospital will offer FREE mammograms to women needing financial assistance with their preventive healthcare. The 10th annual event has typically benefited those who have no insurance at all. Although appointments are not required, women will receive mammograms on a first-come, first-served basis.
Annual mammograms for women over 40 have become a standard tool for detecting breast cancer in its early, treatable stages. While insurance coverage has increased for the procedure, many women are still without insurance. The program is intended for those who might not otherwise have a mammogram. Proof of age and household income are required.
